NGF, Partners Unveil Health Security Scorecard for 36 States

The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Bank, and Resolve to Save Lives Nigeria, has unveiled a Health Security Scorecard to assess and strengthen states’ preparedness for infectious disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies.

The scorecard was unveiled on Wednesday at a Health Security Scorecard Validation Workshop in Abuja.

The Executive Director of Programme Partnership at the NGF Secretariat, Dr Ahmad Abdulwahab, said the initiative would provide a unified framework for evaluating health security governance across Nigeria’s 36 states.

He said the scorecard would consolidate key health security indicators into a single assessment tool, enabling governors to identify gaps, monitor progress, and improve accountability.

According to him, the tool would also help states assess their level of preparedness and provide data to guide policy decisions and investments.

The Executive Director of Resolve to Save Lives Nigeria, Dr Nanlop Ogburuke, said effective health security depended on strengthening capacities at the state level.

She noted that the scorecard would help improve preparedness, prevention, and response to outbreaks such as cholera, Lassa fever, and Ebola.

Meanwhile, the NCDC’s Dr Oyeladun Okunromade said the workshop was focused on identifying gaps in state health security systems and developing an accountability framework to track performance across the country.
