Tinubu to Commission About 40 Projects During Akwa Ibom Visit

President Bola Tinubu is expected to commission 39 completed projects in Akwa Ibom State during his visit to the state, which will coincide with the 39th anniversary of its creation.

The announcement was contained in a resolution issued on Tuesday after the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meeting.

According to the resolution, the projects scheduled for commissioning include the new terminal building, airport hospital, aviation village, 14.5-kilometre Nsit Atai–Okobo Road, dualisation of Ring Road 3, Command and Control Centre, AkwaGIS, State Secretariat Annex, and the ARISE Palm Resort.

The Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, said Governor Umo Eno had directed relevant ministries, departments and agencies to ensure adequate preparations for the president’s visit and the commissioning exercise.

The council also highlighted developments in the state’s healthcare sector, including the recruitment of more than 2,854 health workers, completion of 29 Model Primary Healthcare Centres, the ongoing upgrade of 17 additional PHCs, and the rehabilitation of four secondary healthcare facilities.

It further disclosed the acquisition of three CT scan machines, with three more expected, as well as two MRI machines. The state government is also digitising healthcare processes to improve efficiency, access and quality of care.

The council approved the transmission of nine health sector bills to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.

Meanwhile, the state government approved a ₦31 billion Economic Empowerment Programme targeting youths, women, traders, farmers, transport operators and small and medium-sized enterprises across the state’s 31 local government areas.

The programme, funded under the 2026 approved budget, will provide ₦1 billion to each local government area and cover youth skills acquisition and starter packs, women’s cooperative support, traders’ grants, agricultural inputs, SME development and a transport empowerment scheme.

The government said the initiative is designed to promote entrepreneurship, job creation, poverty reduction, agricultural productivity, business growth and inclusive economic development.

A committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government will determine the modalities for implementing and distributing the intervention, which is expected to benefit 165,912 residents across the state.

Governor Umo Eno thanked the people of Akwa Ibom for their continued support and urged them to remain committed to the administration’s efforts to promote peace, progress and prosperity in the state.
