Moniepoint Restructures Engineering, Product Teams, Introduces Platform Architect Roles

Moniepoint is restructuring its engineering and product functions to improve efficiency, accountability and product development.

The changes will create platform architect roles but make some existing positions redundant, with redeployment considered where suitable vacancies exist.

The fintech says it processes more than $400bn in annual digital payment transaction value across its subsidiaries.

October 26, () – Moniepoint is restructuring its engineering and product functions, introducing platform architect roles as it seeks to improve operational efficiency and support its next phase of growth.

In a holding statement, the fintech said the changes followed a regular strategic review of its operations and were intended to align its technology development structure with the scale of its financial services businesses.

The restructuring will see the company adopt a model built around platform groups comprising smaller, focused product-area teams. Each team will be responsible for its products from development through operation, a structure Moniepoint said would improve autonomy and accountability.

The company expects the model to accelerate product development, strengthen operational reliability and deliver more consistent services as its customer base expands and it enters new markets.

According to the statement, the roles will form part of Moniepoint’s broader Product Operating Model and architectural governance framework, which guide the development of solutions, platform capabilities and technical foundations.

However, the new structure will require fewer roles in some areas while creating positions in others. Moniepoint said some existing jobs would consequently become redundant.

The company said it would consider employees whose roles are affected for available positions elsewhere in the business where suitable opportunities exist. A redundancy consultation process would begin only where no appropriate alternative role is identified.

The statement did not disclose the number of employees affected, the positions involved or the timeline for implementing the changes.

Expansion Raises Demands On Technology

Moniepoint said its organisational changes reflect its growth over the past decade from a single product into a group of financial services businesses serving merchants, businesses and individuals.

Its services cover payments, banking, credit and business management, allowing merchants to accept payments, manage cash flow and access tools to support their operations, while providing individuals with everyday banking services.

The company also highlighted its reach across Nigeria’s informal economy, with an agent network spanning all 774 local government areas. It is expanding its operations in Kenya as it seeks to extend its presence beyond Nigeria.

Across its subsidiaries, Moniepoint processes more than $400bn in annual digital payment transaction value, according to the statement.

The company said its technology had been developed in-house to meet the scale and demands of African commerce. It argued that the new operating model would help its teams build and manage that technology more effectively as the business grows.

Moniepoint described engineering and product development as central to its operations, expressing appreciation to employees for their contributions and confidence that the restructuring would strengthen the business for customers, staff and partners.
