Nigeria Economic Summit Holds As Scheduled, NESG Activates Emergency Health Safeguards
NESG confirms the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit will hold as scheduled on October 26–27 at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, despite the confirmed imported Ebola (Bundibugyo virus) case in the Federal Capital Territory.
The summit will operate in a modified hybrid format under enhanced health safeguards agreed with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention.
Delegates, staff, vendors and journalists will undergo daily health declarations and temperature checks, while symptomatic persons and contacts of known or suspected Ebola cases within the preceding 21 days have been told not to attend physically.
The Presidency, Federal Executive Council members, governors, business leaders and international speakers remain confirmed for the two-day summit as NESG says health authorities will continue daily risk assessments.

October 24, () – The Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG) has confirmed that the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit (NES#32) will hold as scheduled on Monday, October 26 and Tuesday, October 27, 2026, in Abuja, despite heightened public health concerns following the confirmation of an imported Ebola case in the Federal Capital Territory.
NESG said the summit, scheduled for the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, will now operate under a modified hybrid format, with emergency health safeguards and enhanced precautionary measures developed in collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The decision follows the confirmation on October 20 of a single imported case of Ebola disease caused by the Bundibugyo virus in the FCT, which prompted intensified surveillance and contact monitoring by health authorities.
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.
According to NESG, the infected patient has been isolated while identified contacts are being monitored as part of measures to prevent further transmission.
The group said its decision to proceed with the summit followed an assessment of the situation against the NCDC Public Health Guidelines for Mass Gatherings.

It said the assessment determined that the confirmation of a single imported case, on its own, did not warrant cancellation of the high-level economic gathering.
NESG said the summit would consequently proceed with “proportionate, documented precautionary measures” informed by a health security risk assessment and appropriate mitigation measures to protect participants.
Under the tightened arrangements, physical attendance will be restricted to already registered delegates.
Physical registration has closed, while on-site registration and walk-in admission will not be permitted throughout the two-day summit.
All plenary sessions will, however, be streamed live on the NES#32 virtual platform, allowing registered delegates who do not wish to attend physically to participate remotely.
NESG said everyone entering the venue, including delegates, government officials, members of staff, vendors and journalists, will be required to complete a health declaration and undergo temperature screening every day.
Anyone experiencing fever or other symptoms, as well as persons who have had contact with a known or suspected Ebola case within the preceding 21 days, has been advised not to attend the summit physically.
Such delegates have been encouraged to participate virtually.
NESG also stressed that Ebola is not transmitted through the air or by infected persons who have not developed symptoms, explaining that transmission occurs through direct contact with the body fluids of a person who is ill.
Delegates will receive an NES#32 Delegates Health and Safety Information Pack by email ahead of the gathering, while anyone with health concerns has been advised to contact the NCDC through its toll-free line, 6232.
Despite the Ebola alert, NESG said the full complement of the Presidency, members of the Federal Executive Council, state governors and captains of industry remain confirmed for the summit.
Also expected are prominent Nigerian and international speakers, including United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed; Prof Stefan Dercon of Oxford University; and Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare is also expected to attend the opening ceremony, underscoring the heightened health considerations surrounding this year’s gathering.
Speaking on the decision to proceed with NES#32, Chief Executive Officer of NESG, Dr Tayo Aduloju, said the safety of delegates and other participants remained paramount.
“The safety of every delegate, partner and member of staff comes first. We have taken this decision on the evidence and in close partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, NCDC, Africa CDC, the FCT health authorities and Transcorp Hilton.
“The measures in place are proportionate and tested, and they allow Nigeria’s foremost platform for public-private dialogue to meet at a time when the conversation on our economy matters more than ever.
“We thank our partners for their support and urge everyone to follow the guidance of the health authorities”, Aduloju said.
NESG said the health situation would remain under daily review in conjunction with the relevant authorities, adding that any change capable of affecting the summit would be communicated promptly through its official channels.
Ebola Alert Raises Stakes For Major Gathering
The decision to retain the physical component of the summit comes amid heightened vigilance following Nigeria’s confirmation of an imported Bundibugyo Ebola case in Abuja on October 20.
The development prompted health authorities to activate surveillance, isolation and contact-monitoring measures aimed at containing any risk of further transmission.
The Ebola alert has also increased scrutiny around large gatherings, particularly events attracting participants from different parts of Nigeria and abroad.
NESG, however, said its assessment with health authorities showed that cancellation was not required under existing public health guidance, provided appropriate risk-reduction measures were implemented.
The hybrid arrangement is intended to maintain the summit’s physical deliberations while giving delegates the option of participating remotely and reducing unnecessary attendance at the venue.
Economic Dialogue Amid Health Alert
The Nigerian Economic Summit is the flagship annual event of the NESG, a private-sector-led think tank and policy advocacy organisation established to promote the development of a modern, competitive and inclusive Nigerian economy.
Over the years, the summit has developed into one of the country’s major platforms for dialogue between the public and private sectors, bringing together the Presidency, ministers, governors, business leaders, development partners, civil society organisations and international experts.
Discussions traditionally focus on Nigeria’s economic challenges, reforms, investment environment and measures required to improve productivity and living standards.
NES#32 is particularly significant as the government and private sector confront questions around economic growth, employment, productivity, investment and the impact of ongoing reforms on Nigerian households.
NESG maintained that it would continue working with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, NCDC, Africa CDC, FCT health authorities and the Transcorp Hilton throughout the summit to ensure that the measures are enforced and adjusted should the public health situation change.
