NIS FUASK Move To Forge Strategic Partnership On Surveying Education Research
The Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS) has commenced discussions with the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK) on a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening surveying education, professional development, research, and capacity building in Nigeria.
The initiative was unveiled during a courtesy visit by a delegation of the Kaduna State Branch of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors to the university on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Leading the delegation, the Chairman of the NIS Kaduna State Branch, Surv. Samson Maikano, commended the management of FUASK for its warm reception and lauded the institution’s impressive growth trajectory despite its relatively recent establishment.
Maikano congratulated the Vice Chancellor, Prof. William Barnabas Qurix, OFR, FNIA, on the remarkable achievements recorded by the university within a short period, attributing the progress to visionary leadership and a commitment to academic excellence.
He noted that the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors, as the apex professional body for surveying practice in the country, remains dedicated to promoting excellence, innovation, and professional standards through strategic collaborations with institutions that share its developmental vision.
According to him, the Institution is prepared to partner with FUASK in critical areas including professional training, mentorship programmes, research development, technical capacity building, and other initiatives designed to advance surveying education and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“The future of professional surveying lies in strong collaboration between academic institutions and professional bodies.
We are impressed by the strides recorded by FUASK and look forward to establishing a productive relationship that will benefit students, practitioners, and the nation as a whole,” Maikano stated.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Qurix, expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and described the proposed partnership as both timely and significant.
He emphasized that strategic collaborations with professional organizations are vital to the university’s mission of producing highly skilled graduates equipped with the practical knowledge, technical competence, and innovative mindset required to address contemporary national and global challenges.
Prof. Qurix reaffirmed FUASK’s commitment to fostering partnerships that promote academic excellence, cutting edge research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and practical learning.
The Vice Chancellor assured the delegation of the university’s readiness to work closely with the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors in translating shared aspirations into impactful programmes capable of advancing professional education and national development.
Among university officials present during the engagement were the Director of Procurement, QS Idris Abdullahi, and the Director of Physical Planning, Arc. Abel Simon Bivan.
The visit ended on a cordial note with the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph, symbolizing the commencement of what both institutions described as a promising and mutually beneficial relationship.
The proposed collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional development, industry engagement, and research-driven solutions that will strengthen the surveying profession and support Nigeria’s broader development aspirations.
