August 14, () — The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old man, Abubakar Musa, over his alleged involvement in a ritual scheme that included the desecration of a copy of the Holy Qur’an, an incident authorities say had the potential to inflame religious tensions and disrupt public peace in Zuru Local Government Area.

gathered that the suspect, a resident of Rafin Mose Village in Zuru LGA, is under investigation for alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of religious books, use of spells and hypnosis, and acts capable of inciting a breach of the peace.

The incident reportedly occurred on August 9, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m. in the Zango area of Zuru, where detectives uncovered what police described as an alleged ritual plot involving one of Islam’s most sacred symbols.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, preliminary investigations revealed that Musa allegedly acted in concert with two other suspects (Rabi’u Tela, husband of Zarau Hassan, and Hamza Zango), both of whom are currently at large.

Police alleged that the trio dug a pit inside Zarau Hassan’s room and buried a copy of the Holy Qur’an alongside semen, white and red kola nuts, underwear, dead animals and other fetish objects.

Investigators believe the items were allegedly planted as part of a ritual intended to make Zarau Hassan become more submissive to her husband.

The Command said the alleged act was carried out in circumstances capable of provoking anger among Muslim faithful and triggering a breakdown of law and order if left unchecked.

While Musa remains in police custody, police said an intensive manhunt has been launched to apprehend the two fleeing suspects.

Authorities added that the arrested suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Police Condemn Act, Assure Residents

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, strongly condemned the alleged desecration, describing it as a serious act, capable of undermining religious harmony and peaceful coexistence.

He warned that the Command would not tolerate actions capable of inciting religious tension or disturbing public order, assuring residents that everyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands, while encouraging residents to promptly report suspicious activities to the police through the Command’s emergency lines.

He assured the public that all information received would be treated with the strictest confidentiality.
