Abia Police Raid Criminal Hideout, Recover Gun, 50kg Suspected Cannabis, Three Stolen Motorcycles
The Abia State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing intelligence-led operations with the recovery of a firearm, a 50kg bag of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, and three allegedly stolen motorcycles.
The operation also led to the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect, identified as Ebuka Nwakerindu of Umuokoromiri Village in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit carried out a coordinated raid on a suspected criminal hideout at Onitsha Ngwa in Obingwa Local Government Area on September 23, 2026.
The operation followed actionable intelligence and was conducted in line with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, and the Inspector-General of Police’s emphasis on intelligence-led policing.
Police said the suspect and other alleged accomplices fled the scene on sighting the operatives.
However, a search of the location led to the recovery of one locally made single-barrel long gun and a 50kg bag containing substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
The Command said further police action on September 24, 2026, led to the arrest of Nwakerindu.
According to police, the suspect allegedly specializes in the theft and resale of motorcycles.
Three motorcycles suspected to have been stolen were recovered from him.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who fled during the operation.
The recovered exhibits remain in police custody, while investigations are continuing.
The Command added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Reacting to the operation, CP Afolabi reiterated the commitment of the Abia State Police Command to intelligence-driven policing, proactive crime prevention and the protection of lives and property across the state.
He assured residents that the Command would continue to intensify operations against criminal elements and their hideouts across Abia.
