Abia Police Arraign Father Over Alleged Abuse of 13-Year-Old Son, Secure Protective Custody for Victim

The Abia State Police Command has arraigned Mr. Uzoma Uwaeme over the alleged abuse of his 13-year-old son, following the conclusion of investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the suspect was brought before a court of competent jurisdiction and subsequently remanded in correctional custody.

The development followed an earlier police announcement on Uwaeme’s arrest in connection with what the Command described as the gruesome abuse of his son.

The police further disclosed that the child has been handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for proper care, rehabilitation and continued protection.

Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring that victims of abuse receive justice while those accused of such offences are made to face the law.

Afolabi also stressed that the Command would continue to work closely with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to protect the rights and welfare of children across Abia State.

He reaffirmed the determination of the Police Command to strengthen measures aimed at safeguarding vulnerable persons and ensuring that reported cases of child abuse and domestic violence receive appropriate attention.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspected cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other criminal activities to the nearest police station.

The police further assured residents that the Command remains committed to protecting the lives, dignity and fundamental rights of all citizens across the state.
