August 14, () — A Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has ordered the Nigeria Police Force to investigate Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, over allegations that he made inflammatory comments encouraging violence against members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s Osun State governorship election.

The directive, issued by Presiding Magistrate II, Farida Ibrahim, mandates the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja, to investigate the criminal complaint against the senator and submit a report to the court within two weeks.

The order was conveyed in a letter dated August 13, 2026, signed by the Registrar of the Magistrate Court, Abdulraham Yusuf, pursuant to Section 89(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.

The letter, titled “Direct Criminal Complaint Between Pelumi Olajengbesi and Senator Francis Fadahunsi”, instructed the police to investigate the allegations and report back to the court.

“I am directed by the Presiding Magistrate II, His Worship Hon. Farida Ibrahim, sitting at Magistrate Court Wuse Zone 6, FCT Abuja, to write to your office to investigate the above-mentioned case and report back within two weeks”, the letter stated.

The court also attached a copy of the criminal complaint and requested the police to take the necessary action.

Fresh Legal Trouble Over Viral Video

The complaint was initiated by Pelumi Olajengbesi, campaign spokesman to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, who accused Fadahunsi of making comments capable of inciting violence against Accord Party members and supporters.

reports that the petition stems from a viral video in which the senator was alleged to have urged supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party during a political gathering in Ilesa ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Although the comments sparked widespread condemnation and prompted police interrogation, Fadahunsi has consistently denied calling for violence.

The senator maintained that his remarks were either mistranslated or deliberately distorted from Yoruba, insisting that he merely urged APC supporters to “kill the Accord Party with votes” at the ballot box.

Earlier this week, Fadahunsi honoured a police invitation at the Osun State Police Command, where he was questioned for more than two hours before being released without any immediate charges.

₦10bn Defamation Battle Emerges

The legal pressure on the senator intensified as Olajengbesi simultaneously threatened to institute a ₦10 billion lawsuit against him over separate allegations made during television interviews.

In a pre-action letter dated August 12, 2026, Olajengbesi’s counsel, Hammed Lasisi, demanded an immediate retraction of statements allegedly made by Fadahunsi during appearances on Viable TV on July 2 and MEDIA TODAY’s Politics Today on August 11.

According to the lawyer, the senator accused Olajengbesi of sponsoring political thugs and members of the notorious Eiye and Aye cult groups.

The letter further alleged that Fadahunsi questioned Olajengbesi’s origins and made comments suggesting he was not an indigene of Ijebu-Jesha.

According to the demand notice, Fadahunsi allegedly stated during one of the interviews that Olajengbesi was “using thugs, Eiye and Aye”, while in another interview he allegedly described him as “an Eiye man” responsible for terrorising parts of the senator’s constituency.

Olajengbesi rejected the allegations as entirely false, malicious and defamatory.

His lawyer argued that the accusations falsely portrayed his client as a sponsor of criminal organisations, thereby damaging his reputation as a legal practitioner, public figure and political actor.

“The allegation of sponsoring cultists and persons engaged in acts of terror is particularly serious, as it imputes criminality and conduct wholly incompatible with our client’s standing as a legal practitioner, public figure and candidate for elective office,” the letter stated.

Olajengbesi also denied ever sponsoring, financing or associating with any cult group or criminal organisation.

He demanded that Fadahunsi publicly retract the statements through the same media platforms on which they were made and issue an unequivocal apology within 24 hours.

Failure to comply, the lawyer warned, would trigger legal proceedings seeking ₦10 billion in general and aggravated damages for defamation and injurious falsehood.
