Veteran Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has reacted to the controversy surrounding Labour Party leader Peter Obi’s decision to leave Benue State after suspected armed thugs reportedly prevented him from gaining access to the state.

The actor weighed in on the development on September 8, 2026, while responding to a video shared by social commentator Isaac Fayose, who questioned Obi’s decision not to confront the situation.

Fayose had argued that Nigeria needed a politician who could respond aggressively to opposition if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is to be defeated politically. According to him, a leader seeking to challenge the current administration must be prepared to “fight fire with fire.”

However, Inojie disagreed with that position, stressing that choosing to avoid violence should not be mistaken for cowardice.

In a comment under the video, the actor wrote, “Wisdom. Nigeria needs Peter Obi alive. Indeed, true courage is knowing when not to fight.”

Inojie also criticised Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, over the incident.

The actor questioned the governor’s handling of insecurity in the state, accusing him of failing to adequately mobilise security forces against bandits and herdsmen whom he said had contributed to the loss of lives in Benue.

He further expressed surprise that the governor appeared to take satisfaction in the fact that Obi, whom he described as a “harmless man,” was prevented from entering the state.

Inojie pointed out that despite being turned away from Benue, Obi proceeded to Jos on the same day to sympathise with Nigerians displaced by insurgency.

Concluding his reaction, the actor wrote, “Trust me, the joke is on Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia.”
