A Nigerian man has reportedly landed in jail in Togo after allegedly calling a woman an “ash£wo” during an argument while on vacation in the West African country.
The claim was shared on X by Nigerian content creator Brooda John, who said the man had been missing since informing his neighbours that he was travelling to Togo for a holiday.
According to the post, the incident happened at the hotel where the man was staying after he got into an argument with a woman. During the exchange, he allegedly referred to her as an “ash£wo,” prompting authorities to intervene.
The post further claimed that under Togolese law, calling a woman an “ash£wo” without being able to prove the allegation is a criminal offence. It added that the man was arrested, jailed and is expected to resume work after serving his sentence.
Brooda John wrote:
“We just found out my neighbor who we thought has been missing since he told us he’s traveling for holiday to Togo is in jail for calling a woman an Ash£wo.”
He added:
“Apparently while on vacation at the hotel he was staying, an argument broke out between him and a lady and like most Nigerian men call women ‘Ash£wo’ when they’ve no meaningful thing to say to her, this my neighbor called the lady ‘Ash£wo’ and the authority was called on him.”
In another post, he wrote:
“Calling a woman Ash£wo is a criminal offense in TOGO if you can’t prove it that she’s an Ash£wo and they treat all punishments the same in Togo and he was thrown into jail, he’s supposed to have resumed work and he’s serving a jail term in Togo. That serves him right anyways.”
