Lekki Port Welcomes First HMM-ONE Vessel As New Europe-West Africa Route Docks In Lagos

Lekki Deep Seaport recorded another big win on Saturday, July 25, 2026, with the maiden call of the HMM-ONE alliance service.

Management of Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited said the arrival signals deeper integration into global trade lanes and boosts the port’s standing as a top maritime gateway in the region.

The vessel arrived under the newly launched Mediterranean West Africa Service, MA2. The service is jointly operated by Hyundai Merchant Marine and Ocean Network Express, and it links major ports across Europe and West Africa.

According to Lekki Port, the MA2 rotation will give Nigerian importers and exporters better access to international markets. It is expected to speed up cargo movement, cut transit times, and support smoother trade between Europe and West Africa.

“The inclusion of Lekki Port in the new Mediterranean West Africa Service reflects the increasing confidence that leading global shipping lines have in our capabilities and the value we offer as a modern deep-sea port,” Managing Director, Wang Qiang, said in a statement.

“This new service expands trade opportunities for our customers, strengthens Nigeria’s connectivity to key international markets, and further advances our vision of positioning Lekki Port as the leading gateway for trade and logistics in West Africa.”

The port authority added that the alliance call also supports ongoing efforts to attract more direct vessel calls to Nigeria, enhance maritime competitiveness, and ease cargo flow through modern port infrastructure.

Lekki Port said its deep draught, modern terminals and efficient operations make it well positioned to handle larger vessels and growing cargo volumes as global carriers expand West African routes.

Lekki Port LFTZ Enterprise Limited operates the port under a concession from the Nigerian Ports Authority. The company is a joint venture between foreign investors Lekki Port Investment Holdings Inc, the Lagos State Government, and the Federal Government through the NPA.

Container terminal operations have been sub-concessioned to Lekki Freeport Terminal, a subsidiary of CMA CGM, one of the world’s largest shipping lines.

Licensed to operate within the Lagos Free Zone, LPLEL enjoys fiscal incentives under the NEPZ Act, including tax and duty benefits.
