Nigerian singer Bella Shmurda has shared a surprising story about the lengths he went to in the early days of his music career to raise money for studio recordings.
The singer made the revelation during an interview on Echo Room, where he recalled an incident from the period he lived in Okoko, Lagos.
Bella disclosed that he once took his neighbour’s son’s bicycle at night and later sold it in Alaba for ₦7,000. According to him, he used the money to pay for studio sessions as he worked to establish himself in the music industry.
The singer explained that financial difficulties at the time pushed him to take the unusual step, as he was determined to continue recording music despite not having enough money.
Bella also revealed that he eventually reconnected with the boy whose bicycle he had taken and decided to make amends by purchasing a new bicycle for him.
Reflecting on the confession, the singer admitted that his mother would probably be unhappy if she heard him speak publicly about the incident.
He said: “If my mom hears this, she’ll be angry. When we lived in Okoko, I once stole my neighbor’s son’s bicycle and hid it at night. I sold it in Alaba for ₦7,000 to pay for studio sessions. I’ve seen him since and bought him a new bicycle.”
