Abians Abroad Set for Major Homecoming as Diaspora Commission Moves to Attract Investments, Boost Otti’s Development Agenda
The Abia State Diaspora Commission has announced plans for a major global homecoming event aimed at reconnecting Abians living overseas with their homeland, attracting investments, promoting local businesses, and strengthening support for the development initiatives of Governor Alex Otti.
Chief Executive Officer and Executive Secretary of Abia State Diaspora Commission, Ambassador Rev. Dr. Annie Onu, says Abians in the diaspora are returning home in numbers to witness good governance and support the development of the state.
Addressing a press conference to announce Abia Diaspora Global Homecoming, Onu said the commission is dedicated to sharing good news from the diaspora to homeland and building synergy between the government and citizens abroad.
“Today we are gathered to give information concerning Abia Diaspora Global Homecoming. It is best of its time, and diasporas are coming globally for synergy, solidarity, to come and support what our state is doing, what His Excellency is doing,” she said.
“They have heard, they have seen, they have also felt, and such a time like this, they decided in their numbers to come and witness what Abia State is all about, to see good work, what good governance is all about, the policies that have been achieved and progression leading us to another new era.”
According to her, the homecoming will hold from December 18 to 21, 2026.
She said December 18 will feature solidarity walk, followed by engagements with local content providers and organic farmers to enable the diasporans interact, exchange business ideas and see the best locally made products they can take abroad.
She said the engagements will also create opportunities to explore business investments and partnerships to support the state.

“We have professionals in the diaspora. We have Abians doing great things where they are. So they want to bring those knowledge and skills back home to participate and join to build Abia in different capacities,” Onu said.
She disclosed that the grand finale on December 21 will feature interaction with Governor Alex Otti, where diasporans will discuss areas they can support.

She said the knowledge acquired abroad will be brought back to support homeland development across different sectors.
Onu noted another exciting project for the diasporans is the Abia airport being pursued by the Governor, adding that the diasporans will engage on it to see where they can support to give Abians ease of travel.
“We are excited for this global homecoming. We want our brothers and sisters in homeland to get ready to receive their brothers and sisters, make sure they are comfortable and exchange ideas that can benefit and enhance community development,” she said.
She said the commission is committed to the welfare of Abians abroad, including helping in education and guidance, citing intervention during incident in Stratford where Abia State stood out in looking after its citizens.
She added that the commission is creating chapters in different locations where Abians reside to make them know their state cares for them and looks after them.
“It is my heart’s desire to bring to you Abia State Diaspora Global Homecoming. I look forward that all of us will join hands together to make Abia State great. What is on ground is all hands on deck so we can achieve best for Abia State,” she said.
