“The Song Did Well Without You On It”- Wande Coal Blows Hot At Davido Over Unreleased Collaboration
- Wande Coal responded to Davido’s comments about their unreleased collaboration.
- Davido claimed Wande Coal contacted him to record a verse for a song.
- Davido stated he learned Wande planned to release the original track first, followed by a remix featuring his contribution.
Nigerian music star Wande Coal has reacted strongly to comments made by Davido concerning their unreleased collaboration, with the singer offering a different account of why the song was never released.
The controversy began after Davido discussed the collaboration during a recent podcast interview. According to Davido, Wande Coal initially reached out to him to record a verse for the song. He explained that after submitting his contribution, he understood that Wande intended to release the original track first and later put out Davido’s contribution as a remix.
Davido said he was not comfortable with that arrangement because he had recorded his verse with the understanding that it would be part of the main song rather than a remix.
“I recorded the song, then he wanted to drop the song first and use my own verse for the remix, but I was like, no, because I didn’t record the song for a remix.”
He added that he believed his contribution to the record was particularly strong and expressed regret that the collaboration did not eventually see the light of day.
However, Wande Coal has now challenged Davido’s version of events.
Taking to X on Tuesday, August 18, the veteran singer appeared to question why Davido believed he could determine the release strategy for a song that belonged to him.
“Carry song come give you as how? Song wey been get release plan and date!!! Song wey no be your own you wan dictate release plan. That song did well without you on it bruv!!!”
Wande’s response suggests that the song already had a release plan and date before Davido’s involvement. He also maintained that the record was successful without the unreleased collaboration, making it clear that he did not believe Davido’s contribution was necessary for the song to perform well.
