Abia Holds Solemn Assembly, Renews Covenant With God

The Abia State Government on Thursday held a Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service in Umuahia, renewing the state’s commitment to God and dedicating its leadership, people and resources to His service.

Themed “Remembering the Covenant”, the event held at the JAAC Auditorium, Ogurube Layout Umuahia, featured praise and worship, penitential and intercessory prayers led by renowned ministers, including Prophet Isa El-Buba, while Apostle Ofodile Nzimiro led the rededication of Abia State to God.

In a word of exhortation, the Founder and Lead Pastor of The Transforming Church Worldwide, Rev. Dr Sam Oye, commended the Otti led administration for its achievements in roads, healthcare, education, fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability in governance.

Dr Oye who commended Governor Otti for restoring hope and confidence among Abians, said the state has under his leadership become a centre of excellence and an emerging destination for investment.

He described the Otti led administration as an example of what progressive and focused leadership should be adding that the achievements should serve as a foundation for greater development rather than an endpoint.

He urged the governor to sustain the momentum by paying attention to generational vision, integrity, competence and strong institutions, as well as connected infrastructure, human capital development and innovation.

The cleric urged leaders to regard public resources as “covenant money” and public office as “covenant stewardship”, stressing the need for those entrusted with public responsibilities to use state resources for the overall welfare of the people.

He noted that the gathering was an opportunity for people to renew their covenant with God and seek divine direction for the state and urged Abians to support the vision of the Otti administration for a “New Abia”.

In his remarks, Governor Alex Otti reassured the people that God’s presence would continue to abide with Abia and guide the state’s journey of development.

The governor who recounted his experiences during the various political campaigns and electioneering periods dating back to 2015, expressed gratitude to God for preserving him throughout the period.

He reaffirmed his commitment to serving God whom he described as the only true God and stressed that there is no other God besides Him.

Governor Otti expressed appreciation to the religious leaders, traditional rulers, members of the state executive, council and other stakeholders who participated in the solemn assembly.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzo Nwachukwu, described the assembly as an important spiritual exercise for the continued progress of Abia.

Prince Nwachukwu said the state had endured difficult years before God, through the emergence of governor Otti, provided a pathway to its liberation, likening the governor to the biblical Moses.

The Solemn Assembly and Covenant Renewal Service is expected to continue on Saturday in Seventh-day Adventist churches across the state and on Sunday in other churches.
