The Lake Chad basin remains a major theatre of military operations against insurgent groups, including Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), whose activities have fuelled insecurity across parts of Nigeria’s North-East and the wider Lake Chad region.
The waterways and difficult terrain in the area also present operational challenges for security forces conducting surveillance and offensive operations against armed groups.
Although, the report did not identify the specific terrorist group targeted in Wednesday’s strike or provide further details about the identities of those killed and injured, it however stated that the general security situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, while troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remained satisfactory.
