July 23 , () — Three men accused of aiding terrorists linked to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The defendants including Abdulrazak Umar (also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid), Yunusa Musa (also known as Yunusa bin Musa), and Shamsu Adamu Sani (also known as Abu Itisar), entered their guilty pleas on Thursday before Justice Salim Ibrahim.

reports that the three men, all from Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State, were arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) following intelligence-led investigations into the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire LGA of Oyo State.

The defendants are facing a 10-count terrorism charge filed by the Federal Government under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

During Thursday’s proceedings, all three defendants pleaded guilty to counts four and six of the charge.

Count four alleged that between January and May in Suleja, Niger State, the defendants knowingly concealed information about Muhammad Sani, Jibril Mohammed, and Ibrahim Khabab, identified by the prosecution as terrorists who masterminded the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to the prosecution, the defendants failed to report the activities and whereabouts of the alleged terrorists to the appropriate security authorities despite knowing their operations, an offence punishable under Nigeria’s anti-terrorism laws.

First Defendant Faces Additional Terrorism Counts

Beyond the joint charges, the first defendant, Abdulrazak Umar, pleaded guilty to Counts Seven, Eight, Nine, and Ten, all of which relate exclusively to his alleged involvement in terrorism-related activities.

The additional charges are believed to border on his direct participation in activities connected with terrorist operations, although the court did not immediately disclose full details during Thursday’s proceedings.

Following the guilty pleas, Justice Salim Ibrahim adjourned the matter to allow the prosecution to present the facts supporting the charges before sentencing the defendants.
