August 09, () — Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged voters to turn out for the August 15 governorship election and defend their votes, framing participation as a constitutional right.

Adeleke made the call during campaign visits to Ipetu-Ijesha and Ijebu-Jesa, where he sought support for his re-election bid alongside his cousin and musician, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

The governor said voters should demonstrate determination to exercise their franchise, insisting that no force should prevent them from participating in the election.

“Free and fair elections are the inalienable rights of Osun people,” Adeleke said, adding that residents were prepared to “protect and affirm those rights” on election day.

His comments echoed an earlier appeal by Davido, who also urged Osun residents to vote and safeguard their ballots.

Adeleke Security as Election Day Approaches

Adeleke told supporters that security would be provided during the election and encouraged them to mobilise relatives and friends to participate.

“Osun people cannot be scared. We are people of courage. Vote and defend your votes,” he said.

The governor’s campaign also received endorsements from traditional rulers during the visits.

At the palace of the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesha, Oba Adeleke Oke, the monarch praised the governor’s record in office and pledged the support of his community for the August 15 election.

In Ijebu-Jesa, the traditional ruler hosted a prayer session attended by religious leaders and supporters of Adeleke’s Accord platform. The monarch expressed confidence that the governor would secure a second term.

“You will win the second term, and you will deliver even more than you have done in your first term,” the royal father said.

The election is expected to be closely watched as Adeleke seeks a second term amid competition from opposition candidates.

Adeleke used the campaign appearances to urge voters in the Ijesa communities to prioritise participation and continuity, while his repeated call to “vote and defend” their ballots places election-day vigilance at the centre of his campaign message.
