Ministry of Mining Moves to Resolve Asagba Community Land Dispute in Edo

The Edo State Ministry of Mining has reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful resolution of disputes arising from mining-related land matters, following an engagement with representatives of Asagba Community over a land ownership disagreement.

According to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Mining, Mrs Omoruyi Ese Martina, the engagement was at the instance of the Ministry’s response to the concerns surrounding a disputed parcel of land, which was allegedly reported to have been sold to two different individuals.

Addressing members of the Community, the Permanent Secretary assured all parties that the Ministry would handle the matter with fairness, transparency and impartiality to ensure justice and promote lasting peace. She commended the Asagba Community for embracing dialogue and due process rather than allowing the disagreement to escalate, describing the Community’s approach as a demonstration of its commitment to peace and stability.

The Permanent Secretary disclosed that the Ministry would invite the individuals involved in the disputed land transaction to appear before it for a comprehensive hearing, where all parties would be given the opportunity to present their claims before an informed decision would be reached.

She reiterated that the Edo State Government, under the leadership of the Governor, Sen. Monday Okpebholo, remains committed to promoting peace, protecting legitimate investments and ensuring that disputes associated with mining activities are resolved through lawful, transparent and amicable terms.

Representatives of the Asagba Community appreciated the Ministry for its prompt intervention and pledged their full cooperation with the mediation process. They expressed confidence that the Ministry’s intervention would lead to a fair, peaceful and equitable resolution of the dispute.
