September 08, () — A commercial building in Abuja’s bustling Wuse Zone 4 collapsed on Monday night, just hours after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) sealed the property and ordered all occupants to vacate.

The building caved in at about 8:00 p.m., sending panic through the busy commercial district as residents, traders and passersby watched the structure crumble into rubble.

Emergency responders, including personnel of the Federal Fire Service, officials of the FCT Emergency Management Department and other rescue agencies, immediately mobilised to the scene to search for anyone who might have been trapped beneath the debris.

Although the immediate cause of the collapse had not been officially established, the incident has intensified scrutiny of ageing and structurally compromised buildings across Abuja, particularly properties previously identified by regulatory authorities as posing risks to public safety.

In recent months, the FCTA has stepped up inspections and enforcement against distressed structures across the Federal Capital Territory, sealing several buildings deemed unfit for occupation in an effort to prevent avoidable disasters.
