Gov. Alex Otti Celebrates Commodore Ukiwe at 86, Approves Special Reception for Professor Oluikpe at 90
The Abia State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to honouring distinguished sons of the state whose remarkable contributions to leadership, scholarship, public service and humanity continue to inspire generations.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at Government House, Umuahia, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.

Prince Kanu announced that the State Executive Council had celebrated the 86th birthday of former military administrator and elder statesman, Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (rtd.), whose birthday fell on Monday, October 26, 2026.
In recognition of Commodore Ukiwe’s distinguished record of service and contributions to the nation, Governor Otti has approved a special reception in his honour upon his return to Nigeria.
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.
Similarly, the Governor has directed the organisation of a special reception for Professor Emeritus of Linguistics, Benson Oluikpe, who will celebrate his 90th birthday on Saturday, October 31, in Umuahia.

The twin celebrations underscore the Otti administration’s determination to celebrate excellence, preserve the legacies of accomplished personalities and recognise individuals whose lifetime achievements have contributed to the development of Abia State and the advancement of humanity.
Beyond marking significant birthdays, the planned receptions represent an opportunity for the state to appreciate the enduring contributions of its distinguished citizens, celebrate their legacies and inspire younger generations to embrace service, integrity, excellence and dedication to the common good.
Through such gestures, the Abia State Government continues to demonstrate that building a New Abia goes beyond infrastructure and economic transformation to include honouring the people whose achievements have brought pride to the state and helped shape its place in Nigeria’s history.
