St. John Vianney Science College in Ukwulu, Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State, has recorded another remarkable achievement after emerging Best Private School of the Year at the fifth edition of the prestigious Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards, held on Saturday, July 19, at the Stanel Dome in Awka.

The award, regarded as one of the most prestigious honours in Anambra State and the South-East, recognises institutions and individuals whose outstanding contributions have made a significant impact on society.
The latest recognition crowns an impressive run of academic and leadership accomplishments that have positioned the school among Nigeria’s fastest-rising secondary institutions.
Over the past few years, St. John Vianney Science College has consistently distinguished itself in national and international competitions, producing students who continue to excel across various fields.
In 2025, the school emerged victorious at the National Head Girls Competition in Lagos, where its Head Girl was crowned Head Girl of the Year for her outstanding innovation. The school also secured a place among the winners of the Nationwide Inter-Senior Secondary Schools E-Debate Championship held in Abuja in December 2025.
Its reputation soared beyond Nigeria after representing the country at the inaugural UK–Nigeria Debate Championship, where it defeated leading schools from both Nigeria and the United Kingdom to emerge overall champions.
Building on that success, two of the school’s students were selected to represent Nigeria at this year’s World Schools Debating Championships in Kenya. Earlier, the institution also made history by winning the inaugural National Girls in ICT Competition, further strengthening its reputation as a leading centre for academic excellence, innovation and leadership development.
Owned by Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso), the school has continued to attract widespread attention from education stakeholders within and outside Nigeria for its consistent record of excellence.
Receiving the award on behalf of the institution, the School Manager, Rev. Gerald Ogbulikpe, dedicated the honour to the vision of the proprietor, the commitment of the school’s staff, and the resilience and dedication of its students.
He noted that the recognition belonged to everyone who had contributed to building the institution, adding that the bold vision of Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma was centred on raising young people who would excel academically, lead with integrity and compete confidently anywhere in the world. He also acknowledged the contributions of teachers, staff, parents and students in turning that vision into reality, describing the award as both a moment of gratitude and a motivation to strive for even greater achievements.
Rev. Ogbulikpe further reaffirmed the school’s commitment to investing in academic excellence, leadership development, innovation, technology, public speaking, entrepreneurship and character formation to ensure its students remain equipped for the opportunities and challenges of an ever-changing world.
Speaking during the ceremony, the organisers described this year’s recipients as individuals and institutions whose achievements continue to project Anambra State positively while inspiring excellence across diverse sectors.
The fifth edition of the AMTY Awards celebrated outstanding contributions in public service, business, education, entertainment and philanthropy. Among the distinguished honourees were Archbishop Valerian Okeke, who received the Person of the Decade Award; Mrs. Amaka Onwughalu, Chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc, honoured as Woman of the Year; and celebrated actor Ken Erics Ugo, who received the Artiste of the Year Award, alongside several other acco
mplished personalities.
