Dangote highlights African ownership

President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, Aliko Dangote, said the participation of investors from every African country reflected a desire among Africans to own stakes in businesses operating on the continent.

He said the IPO was intended not only to raise capital but also to widen ownership and enable more investors to participate in the refinery’s future growth.

According to him, the response reinforced the company’s ambition to build an enterprise that contributes to Africa’s industrial development and energy security.

Dangote added that the company would continue its expansion programme and Vision 2030 strategy, with a focus on operational performance and long-term growth.

The refinery’s IPO provides an opportunity for the company to broaden its shareholder base, although the extent of that change will depend on the final allocation of shares and the terms governing the offer.

Company targets long-term growth

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, David Bird, said applications from 120 countries reflected international interest in the refinery’s scale and growth prospects.

He said the company’s priority remained translating its industrial capacity into operational efficiency, sustainable growth and long-term shareholder value.

Group Chief Financial Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Murat Erden, also highlighted the transaction’s significance for African capital markets, although further details of his comments were not provided in the available statement.

The offer’s ₦525 share price and proposed size make it a significant capital-market transaction. Its final performance, however, will depend on confirmed subscription figures, share allocation and the company’s ability to deliver returns to investors.

For the refinery, the conclusion of the IPO marks a new phase in its ownership structure.

For Nigeria’s capital market, the international reach of the offer demonstrates the potential of digital distribution and cross-border investor engagement to expand participation in large domestic businesses.

The next measure of success will be whether the offer translates that international interest into completed investments and whether the refinery’s financial and operational performance sustains investor confidence over time.
