Abia State Government Partners Aba Fashion Week to Boost Creative Industry, Announces November 24–27 Event
The Abia State Government has intensified efforts to position the state as a leading destination for fashion, craftsmanship and creative enterprise with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy and Aba Fashion Week Showcase Ltd.
The strategic partnership is aimed at unlocking the enormous potential of Abia’s creative industry, promoting indigenous talents, supporting fashion entrepreneurs and creating more economic opportunities for young people across the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Monday, November 2, 2026, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti at Government House, Umuahia.
As part of the partnership, the Commissioner announced that the 2026 edition of Abia Fashion Week would take place from November 24 to 27 in Aba, the commercial nerve centre of the state and a city widely recognised for its rich tradition of craftsmanship, garment production and indigenous fashion enterprise.

Prince Kanu explained that the programme would feature exhibitions, street fashion displays and a masterclass designed to promote creativity, skills development and knowledge sharing among participants.
The activities will culminate in a grand finale on November 27, featuring a spectacular runway fashion show where designers and creative talents will have the opportunity to display their works and celebrate the richness of indigenous fashion.
Beyond the glamour and entertainment associated with fashion exhibitions, the initiative is expected to serve as an important economic platform for nurturing local talents, strengthening creative businesses and expanding the commercial value of Abia’s fashion industry.
The Commissioner noted that the initiative was designed to promote indigenous creativity and cultural identity through fashion while consolidating Abia’s growing ambition to become a recognised fashion hub.
He further emphasised that the state government’s partnerships with relevant stakeholders in the creative sector would open new pathways for youth empowerment, employment generation and the expansion of creative enterprises.
The development represents another step in the Otti administration’s broader efforts to diversify Abia’s economy, harness the productive capacity of its people and transform the state’s rich creative heritage into sustainable economic opportunities.
With Aba’s longstanding reputation for garment production, shoemaking, leatherworks and other forms of indigenous craftsmanship, the 2026 Abia Fashion Week is expected to provide a valuable opportunity to showcase the city’s creative strength to a wider audience while attracting investment, partnerships and fresh business opportunities to the state.
