Abia Diaspora Homecoming To Drive Investment, Skills Transfer, Partnerships -Amb Onu
Abia State is set to host its Diaspora Global Homecoming from December 18 to 21, 2026, in a move to attract investment, promote knowledge transfer and strengthen ties with indigenes living abroad.
The Chief Executive Officer and Executive Secretary of the Abia State Diaspora Commission, Rev. Dr Ambassador Annie Onu, disclosed this at a press conference in her office where she unveiled plans for the programme.

She said the event would bring Abians from different parts of the world together to assess developments in their home state, explore business opportunities and identify practical ways to contribute to its growth.
Onu said the initiative was designed to deepen engagement between the state government and the diaspora community and create opportunities for investment, entrepreneurship, professional collaboration and sustainable development.
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.

She added that the programme would enable participants to interact with local entrepreneurs, organic farmers and other stakeholders, exchange ideas and explore partnerships that could benefit the state.
“The Abia Diaspora Global Homecoming is an opportunity for Abians living abroad to return home, witness the progress being made in the state and contribute their knowledge, skills and resources to its development.
“Our brothers and sisters in the diaspora have heard about the achievements of the present administration, and they are coming in their numbers to see the progress for themselves and identify ways to support the state”, Amb Onu said.
According to her, activities will begin on December 18 with a solidarity walk, followed by engagements with local content providers and organic farmers to showcase locally produced goods and explore business opportunities.
She said the sessions would also enable diaspora participants to identify products with export potential and establish partnerships that could expand access to international markets for Abia-made goods.
The Commission’s chief executive noted that many Abians abroad had acquired valuable professional experience and specialised skills that could support development initiatives in their home state.
“We have professionals and highly skilled Abians doing great things in different parts of the world.
“They are eager to bring their knowledge and expertise back home and contribute to the development of Abia in various capacities”, she said.
Amb. Onu disclosed that the grand finale on December 21 would feature an interaction with Governor Alex Otti, providing participants with an opportunity to discuss areas of collaboration and offer ideas on how they could support the state’s development agenda.
She also highlighted the potential of improved air connectivity to stimulate economic activities, attract investment and strengthen Abia’s links with the international community.
The diaspora commission chief urged residents to give returning indigenes a warm reception and use the homecoming to exchange ideas and develop initiatives that could benefit their communities.
She reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting Abians living abroad, including addressing their educational needs and providing guidance where necessary.
Amb.Onu added that the commission was working towards establishing chapters in locations with significant Abia diaspora populations to improve communication, strengthen engagement and maintain closer links between indigenes abroad and their home state.
