Abia Cuts Teaching Qualification Fees
Abia State Government has reduced the fees for graduates without education degrees who wish to obtain professional teaching qualifications at the Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu, Abia state.
The disclosure was made by the moderator of the ongoing capacity-building workshop for 4,074 newly recruited teachers, Elder Ihuoma Ukaegbu, during a session on professional development and career progression.
Ukaegbu said the initiative was designed to enable graduates from non-education backgrounds to acquire the required professional qualifications and enhance their career prospects in the teaching profession.
He urged teachers who had already enrolled in similar programmes at other institutions to continue with their studies, stressing that continuous professional development was critical to effective teaching and career advancement.
Ukaegbu also encouraged the newly recruited teachers to utilise opportunities provided by the state government to improve their qualifications and strengthen their professional capacity.
Earlier, a facilitator, Dr Nnenna Anyanwu, addressed the participants on “Statutory School Record Management,” emphasising the importance of accurate and proper documentation in school administration.
Anyanwu said school records were essential for effective management of students, staff and school activities, urging teachers to ensure that records were accurate, current and properly maintained.
She also stressed the importance of safeguarding confidential information contained in official documents and adhering to approved procedures for managing school records.
Another facilitator, Mrs Laura Otti, spoke on the “Abia First Reform and Agenda,” highlighting its relevance to the education sector and the role of teachers in driving the state’s reform initiatives.
Otti urged the teachers to embrace professionalism, accountability, efficiency and continuous self-development, noting that the success of education reforms depended largely on the commitment and competence of teachers.
The facilitators reminded the participants that their appointment came with responsibilities both as educators and public servants, requiring discipline, integrity and dedication to duty.
The capacity-building workshop is part of the Abia State Government’s efforts to strengthen the teaching workforce and equip the 4,074 newly recruited teachers with the knowledge and skills needed for effective service delivery in public schools.
