2027: ‘If Ballot Reaches Acha, Why Not Roads?’ ADC Senatorial Candidate Challenges Neglect of Abia North Communities
ADC senatorial Candidate questions infrastructure gaps in rural communities, unveils plan to push road rehabilitation and electricity projects through federal institutions
Abia North senatorial Candidate Ike Bishop Okoronkwo, popularly known as IBO, has questioned the disparity between electoral participation and infrastructure access in rural communities, asking why areas where residents vote continue to struggle with poor roads and unreliable electricity.
Okoronkwo raised the concern on Monday, October 26, 2026, during the unveiling of his campaign organisation and legislative agenda at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Secretariat in Umuahia.
Recounting visits to Acha and Amoji Menyi communities, the aspirant said residents had drawn his attention to difficulties accessing their communities, particularly during rainfall, as well as persistent electricity challenges.
“If ballot paper reaches Acha, why won’t road reach there? Why won’t electricity reach there?” he asked.

The question formed a central part of his proposed infrastructure agenda, which seeks to prioritise road rehabilitation and improved electricity access in underserved communities across Abia North.
Okoronkwo argued that rural residents should be able to connect to markets, schools, healthcare facilities and other essential services, regardless of where they live within the senatorial district.
He identified Ohafia, Abam, Isuikwuato, Arochukwu and Umunneochi among the areas requiring attention, saying infrastructure gaps could limit economic activity and make everyday life more difficult for residents.
IBO proposes ‘Connect and Power’ agenda
To address the concerns, the aspirant unveiled a proposed programme tagged “ABIA NORTH CONNECT AND POWER.”
Every second brings Nigerians closer to exercising their democratic right and shaping the future of our nation.
Exercise your democratic right responsibly, peacefully and lawfully.
Under the plan, he said he would advocate road rehabilitation, pursue federal budgetary allocations and engage relevant government institutions to advance infrastructure projects in communities facing access and electricity challenges.
On rural electrification, Okoronkwo proposed working with the Rural Electrification Agency, electricity distribution companies and other relevant institutions to explore options including grid extensions, mini-grids and renewable-energy solutions.

He said improved electricity access could support rural markets, schools, health facilities, small businesses and agro-processing centres.
The candidate also linked road development to agricultural productivity, arguing that better connections between rural communities and commercial centres could make it easier for farmers to move produce to markets and help local enterprises expand.
However, the proposed projects would require technical assessments, funding, budgetary approval and cooperation with the agencies responsible for implementation.
