We're fully prepared for 2027 polls - Lagos police assures residents

The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Mr Fatai Tijani, has assured residents that there will be no cause for alarm before, during and after the 2027 general elections.

Tijani gave the assurance on Thursday in an interview with newsmen at a stakeholders’ meeting at the Area E Police Command, Festac, Lagos.

He said the safety of residents remained paramount to the command, noting that the electioneering period would involve the movement of people from one location to another.

“Ensuring the safety of people is very paramount to us.

“The electioneering that we are entering into will entail the movement of people from one place to another, and we need to secure all the people that will be involved in the election,” he said.

The CP said the command was fully prepared to provide adequate security throughout the electoral process.

“I can assure you there is no cause for alarm before, during and after the election. We are fully prepared for it,” he said.

Tijani urged residents to collaborate with the police by providing timely and useful information to prevent crime and address emerging security threats.

“We urge residents to collaborate with us so as to have a very robust security system,” he said.

He advised residents to be familiar with people living within their communities and report individuals suspected of criminal activities to the appropriate authorities.

The CP expressed concern over the youth involvement in crime, cultism, hooliganism and other forms of criminality, urging parents, community leaders and other stakeholders to play greater roles in guiding young people.
