‘Worthy Partner’- First Lady Remi Tinubu Recieves Royals Title in Imo

• The Imo recognition comes only months after Senator Tinubu was conferred with the title Ugosimba I of Enugu, meaning “Jewel of Empowerment,” in recognition of her activities around women’s empowerment and social development.

September 09, () — First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has received another major traditional honour in the Southeast, with Imo State traditional authorities conferring on her the title of Oso Di Eme I of Imo State.

The title was bestowed on the First Lady during her recent visit to Imo State, where she was received by traditional rulers and other stakeholders.

Her Senior Special Adviser on Media, Busola Kukoyi, announced the development on Wednesday in a statement accompanied by photographs of the ceremony posted on her X handle.

Kukoyi explained that Oso Di Eme I means “She who supports her husband,” presenting the title as an acknowledgement of Senator Tinubu’s role as a partner to President Bola Tinubu.

“A worthy partner of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. As he’s working, she is working!!!! Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the aide wrote.

The title places emphasis on the First Lady’s position alongside the President and her involvement in initiatives connected with the administration, particularly programmes focused on women, children, education, social welfare and economic empowerment.

The ceremony also reflected the cultural significance attached to traditional titles in southeastern Nigeria, where traditional institutions frequently recognise prominent individuals for their perceived contributions to society, community development and public service.

Photographs released by the First Lady’s media office showed Senator Tinubu in elaborate traditional attire incorporating APC party symbols and Nigerian flag motifs.

She wore a distinctive red headwrap and coral beads and was pictured holding a large ceremonial fan inscribed “OSO DI EME”, as well as a white horsetail flywhisk.

The latest recognition adds to the series of traditional honours bestowed on Senator Tinubu since her emergence as Nigeria’s First Lady.

In June 2026, she was conferred with the traditional title of Ugosimba I of Enugu, which translates to “Jewel of Empowerment.”

That title was presented in recognition of her efforts in promoting women’s empowerment and social development across the country.

Since President Tinubu assumed office in May 2023, the First Lady has maintained a prominent public role through initiatives focusing on vulnerable Nigerians, women, children and young people.

Her office has promoted programmes around education, healthcare, skills development and economic empowerment, while she has also used her position to advocate greater support for women and other vulnerable groups.
