Police Arrest 28-Year-Old Suspect Over Alleged Cultism, Recover Pump-Action Gun in Aba

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ugochukwu Precious, of Umuohia, Ogbor Hill, Aba, over alleged violent criminal gang activities, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms.

The Command, in a statement, said the suspect was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Aba North, following a report received on September 22, 2026.

According to the Police, the suspect had allegedly obtained an iPhone 17 Pro Max from a seller under the guise of payment on delivery since April 2026, but failed to pay for the device.

The Command said the matter later escalated when the suspect allegedly resorted to using thugs and threats against the seller.

It said that following actionable intelligence gathered during investigation, operatives of the RRS apprehended the suspect, who allegedly made confessional statements during interrogation.

The Police further disclosed that a pump-action shotgun was recovered from the suspect on September 23, 2026.
The Command said investigation into the matter was ongoing, while efforts were being made to arrest other fleeing members of the alleged gang.It added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi,  reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism, violent crimes and unlawful possession of firearms in the state.

Afolabi also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and continue to provide the Police with timely and useful information to assist in preventing and combating crime.
