UMUAHIA — Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, on Sunday, November 1, 2026, formally flagged off Labour Party 2027 Governorship Campaign at Umuahia Township Stadium, declaring that his administration seeks a fresh mandate to move Abia from rescue to consolidation.

Presenting an address titled “Winning Together,” Otti said his re-election bid alongside Deputy Governor, Ikechukwu Emetu, is anchored on three objectives.

According to him, first is to move the architecture of governance from rescue to consolidation, second is to institutionalize excellence, accountability and professionalism in public service to banish mediocrity, and third is to extend development arc through policies that reposition the state for emerging economic order.

“My dear brother and I have presented ourselves for three connected reasons. First is to move the architecture of governance from rescue to consolidation. Second is to institutionalize excellence, accountability and professionalism in public service. Lastly, we intend to use the next four years, when entrusted, to extend the development arc through policies and investment decisions that reposition the State for opportunities of emerging economic order,” he said.

The Governor recalled 12-year journey that began with the message of hope, noting that what started as an idea became a movement that moved from strategy rooms to streets, markets, community squares and religious centres.

He said after man-made disappointments of 2015 and 2019, the siege was broken in 2023.

“In a little over three years, clouds of despair have parted, long nightmares have ended, and the light of renewal, restoration and prosperity has risen over our dear State,” Otti declared.

He credited turnaround since May 29, 2023 to people of Abia, particularly faithful supporters who remained unyielding for more than a decade.

On achievements, Otti said administration has completed more than 400 road projects covering over 1,000 kilometers, while 82 others spanning over 200 kilometers are ongoing.

He added that government revived primary healthcare delivery system, transformed secondary and tertiary institutions, recruited over 9,000 teachers for public primary and secondary schools, delivered smart schools, retrofitted scores of schools and invested tens of billions in Abia State University Uturu, Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba and Abia State College of Education (Technical) Arochukwu.

Other feats, he said, cut across security, public transportation, urban sanitation, power and public utilities, environmental and climate change governance, land administration, youth development, industry and SME support, agriculture, digital economy, arts and culture and support for women and vulnerable groups.

“With fresh mandate in February 6, 2027 Governorship election, we shall raise the bar even higher and set Abia on the path of irreversible progress through bold leadership, investments in factor assets and multi-level partnerships for prosperity,” he said.

On Politics, Otti congratulated opposition parties for successful internal selection processes and gave express directive that they should not be restricted from the use of public facilities once they apply and obtain necessary approvals.

“Security agencies have also been mandated to arrest and deal decisively with anyone who attempts to obstruct any political group from holding their legitimate activities or deface campaign publicity materials,” he said.

He advised parties to focus on issues, sell manifestos and avoid personal attacks, noting that Abia has gone past the era of campaigning with payment of salaries and pensions, road construction or urban sanitation.

“Do not also forget that the State ranks first in citizens satisfaction index, first in Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, first in health preparedness index and also stands in excellent positions on the State Performance Index and fiscal performance ranking,” Otti said.

He urged supporters to work collectively to make the victory decisive in every polling unit in February next year’s Governorship election and to elect other Labour Party candidates.

“Vote Labour Party for prosperity of our communities, for better future for our children and for consolidation of New Abia ethos of service and accountability,” he concluded.
