Addressing party stakeholders, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Distinguished Senator Nenadi Usman, described Hajja Konto’s nomination as a landmark decision that underscores the party’s enduring commitment to equity, inclusion and equal opportunity.

Senator Usman stated that the nomination aligns with the Labour Party’s philosophy of “Mama, Papa, Pikin,” which promotes family values, fairness and people-centred governance. She noted that the Labour Party remains the only major political party in the 2027 presidential race to nominate a woman for the office of Vice President, describing the decision as a practical demonstration of the party’s belief in gender inclusion and social justice.

According to Senator Usman, the developmental strides recorded in Abia State demonstrate the Labour Party’s capacity to deliver good governance and should encourage Nigerians to support the party in future elections.

Speaking during the session, the Labour Party’s Presidential Candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Sunday Okereke, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to work alongside Hajja Bintu Konto, whom he described as humble, dependable and highly accomplished.

He stressed that meaningful national development cannot be achieved without the active participation of women in governance, noting that sidelining women is comparable to attempting to clap with one hand despite their enormous contribution to national growth and development.

In her response, Hajja Bintu Konto thanked the Labour Party leadership and members for the confidence reposed in her, describing Senator Nenadi Usman as a compassionate leader whose dedication to justice, fairness and national service continues to inspire many Nigerians.

She pledged to serve the nation with dedication if elected Vice President in 2027, recalling her humanitarian work during the early years of the Boko Haram insurgency in Northern Nigeria.
