Nigerians can invest from N5,000, with subscriptions closing on August 7 and settlement scheduled for August 12.

August 4, () — The Debt Management Office (DMO) has opened subscriptions for its August 2026 Federal Government Savings Bond, giving retail investors the opportunity to earn annual returns of nearly 15 percent with a minimum investment of N5,000.
In a notice released on Monday, the DMO unveiled two fixed-income instruments under the monthly savings bond programme.
The first is a two-year bond maturing on August 12, 2028, with an annual interest rate of 13.963 percent, while the second is a three-year bond maturing on August 12, 2029, offering 14.963 percent per annum.
Subscriptions opened on August 3 and will close on August 7, while successful investors will receive allotments on August 12, the settlement date from which interest will begin to accrue.

Retail investors can start from N5,000

The DMO said each bond unit is priced at N1,000, allowing Nigerians to participate with a minimum subscription of N5,000.
Additional investments can be made in multiples of N1,000, subject to a maximum subscription of N50 million.
Interest on both instruments will be paid quarterly throughout their tenure.
Coupon payments are scheduled for November 12, February 12, May 12 and August 12, providing investors with a predictable stream of income until the bonds mature.
The Federal Government Savings Bond programme was introduced to deepen retail participation in Nigeria’s domestic debt market by giving individuals access to government-backed investment opportunities while promoting a stronger savings culture.

Government-backed investment with tax incentives
According to the DMO, the bonds are listed on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), allowing investors to sell them on the secondary market before maturity if they choose.
The agency added that the securities qualify as liquid assets for banks in the computation of liquidity ratios and also enjoy tax exemptions under the Companies Income Tax Act and the Personal Income Tax Act for eligible investors, including pension funds.
The DMO said the savings bonds are backed by the full faith and credit of the Federal Government of Nigeria, making them one of the safest investment instruments available in the domestic market.
The latest offer comes as yields in Nigeria’s fixed-income market remain attractive amid elevated interest rates, providing retail investors with an opportunity to preserve capital while earning stable returns from sovereign-backed securities.
The monthly savings bond programme has become a key funding source for the Federal Government, while also widening investment opportunities for individuals seeking low-risk assets that generate regular income.
It complements the government’s broader strategy of diversifying domestic borrowing and encouraging greater participation in the country’s capital market.
