Edo SSEB Sets Up Teachers’ Disciplinary Council, Says It’s Not For Victimization

The Edo State Senior Secondary Education Board, SSEB, has inaugurated a Teachers’ Disciplinary Council for senior secondary schools across the state to promote discipline, professionalism, and accountability.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Thursday in Benin City, SSEB Executive Chairman, Dr. Rita Otibho Erewele, said the Council was not established to victimize teachers but to protect committed educators, students, and the integrity of the teaching profession.

Dr. Erewele noted that the initiative aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s education reforms and the administration’s *“SHINE AGENDA” aimed at ensuring quality teaching and learning in senior secondary schools in the state.

She urged members of the Council to discharge their duties with *fairness, transparency, and integrity* in order to improve teaching and learning outcomes. Education stakeholders present at the event commended the initiative.

Mr. Enomhonbor Julius Osahon, President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools, ANCOPSS, Edo State Chapter described the Council as a _“fair and impartial platform”_ for handling disciplinary issues in schools.

Also speaking, Comrade Aighomanhi James Idubor, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Edo State, said it was the _“first of its kind by SSEB”_ and expressed optimism that it would ensure fairness and justice for all teachers.

The Board charged the Council to work in line with the ethics of the profession and support government’s drive to reposition senior secondary education in Edo State.
