Abia State to Host South-East Security Summit as Gov. Alex Otti Hands Over New Nigerian Air Force Complex
The Abia State Government has announced that the state will host a high-level South-East Regional Security Summit on Thursday, July 30, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen regional collaboration in tackling security challenges across the South-East.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, disclosed this on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, while briefing journalists on the outcome of this week’s State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to the commissioner, the summit will bring together the governors of the five South-East states alongside top security stakeholders to deliberate on practical and collaborative strategies aimed at enhancing security and ensuring lasting peace and stability across the region.
The summit, themed “Collaborative Approaches to Strengthening Security and Regional Stability,” is expected to attract high-profile participants, including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour. Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Azubuike Ihejirika (retd.), will deliver the keynote address as the Guest Speaker, alongside other distinguished security experts and government officials.
Prince Kanu also revealed that Governor Alex Otti will, on Friday, July 31, 2026, formally hand over the newly constructed Nigerian Air Force Administrative Complex in Umuahia to the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Air Staff.
He added that the handover ceremony will be attended by other senior military officers, underscoring the growing partnership between the Abia State Government and the nation’s security institutions in strengthening the state’s security architecture.
The twin events are expected to reinforce Abia’s commitment to promoting regional security cooperation while supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the nation’s arm
