July 27, (THEWILL) — Ajax have completed the signing of Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare from Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy worth up to €22 million.

According to transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano, the Eredivisie giants reached a club-to-club agreement with Wolves that sees Ajax pay a loan fee while covering the striker’s full wages throughout the season. The deal also includes a non-mandatory purchase option valued at around €22 million, while Wolves will receive additional bonus payments if Ajax qualify for European competition next season.

The completion of the deal sees Arokodare become Ajax’s marquee attacking signing of the summer transfer window, with the Dutch giants identifying the Super Eagles forward as their top priority.

The move brings an end to the 25-year-old’s difficult spell in England after joining Wolves from Belgian side, Genk, last summer in a transfer reportedly worth around €26 million

Despite a challenging campaign for the Midlands club, Arokodare finished as Wolves’ joint-leading Premier League scorer with three goals and one assist, while registering six goals in all competitions. However, Wolves suffered relegation from the Premier League, making the Nigerian striker’s departure increasingly inevitable.

The Super Eagles forward had also attracted interest from Serie A clubs Fiorentina and Genoa, as well as Turkish side Trabzonspor, but Ajax won the race for his signature.

Arokodare’s final weeks at Molineux were overshadowed by uncertainty after he was reportedly informed by Wolves’ new manager that he was no longer part of the club’s first-team plans. Reports also suggested tensions emerged during training as he sought clarity over his future.

The move to Amsterdam offers the towering striker the chance to revive his career at one of Europe’s most successful clubs while returning to continental football.

Arokodare now becomes the latest Nigerian to wear the famous Ajax jersey and will be aiming to rediscover the prolific form that made him one of Belgium’s standout forwards before his move to the Premier League.
