Spice Girls Regain Ownership of “Spice World” Film, Plan Re-release

July 07, () — The Spice Girls have regained full ownership of their 1997 film “Spice World” and are planning to make it available to fans again.

Melanie C, also known as Sporty Spice, shared the news during an appearance on The Louis Theroux Podcast, saying the group had brought together the different owners of the film rights.

“It’s not available at the moment. It will be, because there were a lot of people who owned it. It was kind of all over the place,” she said.

“The Spice Girls now fully own it, so we will be presenting it at some point in hopefully the not-too-distant future for people to enjoy.”

Released in 1997, “Spice World” starred Melanie C, Mel B, Emma Bunton, Geri Horner, and Victoria Beckham as fictional versions of themselves preparing for a concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall.

The musical comedy became a cult favourite and featured celebrity appearances from Elton John, Roger Moore, Stephen Fry, and Meat Loaf.

The singer said much of the film was inspired by the group’s real experiences during the height of their fame and reflected what they went through while promoting their music around the world.

The Spice Girls are also marking the 30th anniversary of their debut single “Wannabe” this year. However, Mel C said there are currently no plans for a reunion tour.

She said the group has discussed “great opportunities” to celebrate the milestone, but nothing has been confirmed.

Mel C added that all five members remain part of the Spice Girls legacy, including Victoria Beckham, who did not take part in the group’s 2019 reunion tour.

“Once a Spice Girl, always a Spice Girl,” she said.

The return of “Spice World” will give fans another chance to revisit one of the most memorable pop culture films of the 1990s.
