Support Groups Brought Under Campaign Machinery
The Directorate of Support Group Mobilisation is headed by Silas Agara, with Senator Shehu Sani and Muri Ajaka as deputy directors.
The structure establishes zonal coordinators, deputy coordinators and secretaries across the geopolitical zones, effectively bringing political support groups into the national campaign architecture.
The campaign has similarly created extensive structures for grassroots, community, civil society, youth, women and faith-based mobilisation.
The arrangement suggests an attempt to build a campaign operation extending from the national leadership to constituencies and organised groups at the grassroots.
State Campaign Councils Expanded
The APC document also spells out the membership of the State Campaign Councils, creating another layer of organisation beneath the Presidential Campaign Council.
Each state structure will comprise the State Campaign Coordinator and the State APC Executive Committee.
It will also accommodate all serving and former members of the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly, serving ministers from the state, National Assembly candidates and State Assembly candidates.
All elected APC local government chairmen or chairmen of LGA Campaign Councils will be included, alongside members of the Presidential Campaign Council from the respective states.
The party also provides for the inclusion of any other critical stakeholders considered appropriate.
The arrangement effectively creates a chain of command running from the national Presidential Campaign Council through the states to local political structures.
Revised List Confirms Exclusive
The unveiling of the expanded council confirms ’s exclusive report published on Monday, August 24, that Tinubu had ordered the recall and reconstitution of the initial campaign council following growing disquiet among senior APC members and stakeholders.
The controversy followed the unveiling on August 22 of an initial 223-member Presidential Campaign Council.
The composition immediately raised questions within the ruling party over the absence of several prominent politicians who played significant roles in the APC’s 2023 presidential campaign.
The initial council was also considerably smaller than the 422-member campaign council constituted by the APC for the 2023 presidential election.
Beyond its size, however, the controversy centred on the omission of influential APC governors, party leaders and campaign veterans, as well as concerns among stakeholders that the structure failed to adequately reflect the hierarchy, geographical spread and competing political interests within the ruling party.
subsequently reported on August 24 that Tinubu had intervened, ordering a reconstitution of the council in response to the concerns.
The 13-page revised structure now provides official confirmation of that report.
The expanded council not only accommodates more APC stakeholders but also gives strategic responsibilities to influential politicians outside the ruling party, underscoring an apparent effort by Tinubu’s camp to assemble a broad political coalition for the 2027 contest.
With the revised campaign machinery now unveiled, attention will shift to its formal inauguration on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, when Tinubu is expected to formally activate the political structure that will drive his bid for a second term in office.
