Abia Positions for Aviation Revolution as Gov. Otti Welcomes International Investors for Airport Ground Handling and Technology Hub
Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to creating a conducive and investor-friendly environment that attracts strategic investments capable of accelerating the state’s economic transformation, particularly in the aviation sector.
The Governor made this known on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at the Government House, Umuahia, while receiving a high-powered delegation led by the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Skymaster Achievers International Services Limited, Mr. Princewill Ogbonna, alongside his partner, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing of ElectroAir OU, Estonia, Mr. Aleksandr Skrebnev. The delegation was in Abia State to explore investment opportunities within the state’s rapidly emerging aviation ecosystem.
The visit marks another significant step in Governor Otti’s vision of transforming Abia into a major hub for transportation, logistics, industrial development, and regional trade through the ongoing airport project and related infrastructure investments.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Otti, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, PhD, emphasized that the airport project has continued to enjoy the full backing of his administration from inception, reflecting the government’s commitment to integrity, transparency, excellence, and sustainable development.
He commended Skymaster Achievers International Services Limited for its professionalism, commitment, and strategic partnership with the state government, especially its readiness to support the provision of critical ground handling services and equipment required for the successful operation of the airport upon completion.
The Governor noted that the establishment of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework by his administration was specifically designed to sustain the investor-friendly environment that has continued to attract both local and international investors to Abia State.
Governor Otti expressed the readiness of the state government to collaborate with both Skymaster Aviation Services Group and ElectroAir of Estonia in providing modern ground handling equipment for the soon-to-be-completed Abia Airport, stressing that such facilities are indispensable to the successful operation of any modern aviation facility.
According to him, his administration remains deliberate in engaging only credible and competent partners whose expertise and investments align with the state’s broader development agenda, particularly in critical sectors such as aviation, logistics, transportation, and supply chain management.
The Governor further described the proposed aviation and logistics hub planned for Abia as a potential game changer that could redefine trade and economic integration across the West African sub-region.
He observed that current international trade routes often compel goods destined for neighboring African countries to transit through Europe before reaching their final destinations, resulting in avoidable costs, delays, and logistical bottlenecks. He maintained that a functional regional logistics network anchored in Abia would significantly reduce freight costs, facilitate the movement of goods and medical supplies, and enhance economic growth across the continent.
Governor Otti attributed the increasing interest being shown by foreign governments, development partners, and international investors in Abia State to the reforms, transparency, and enabling environment established by his administration. He expressed optimism that the partnership involving ElectroAir, Skymaster, and other stakeholders would produce mutually beneficial outcomes for both the investors and the state.
“And it’s quite a very pleasant news for us to see that there is a strong commitment from your (ElectroAir) own side, partnering with Skymasters to make a glistening hope.
“So I think that what you’re bringing on board is something that every right thinking administration will jump at. And so I want to reassure you and indeed every serious minded investor, that Abia is ready for business,“ the Governor stated, highlighting the importance of the proposed collaboration.
The Governor further reiterated that the state has already put in place the institutional structures necessary to ensure the sustainability and success of such investments.
“And, of course, we have also put in place structures to be able to drive this going forward. The PPP has been set up.
“And I do know that in the aviation industry, logistics and supply chain, of course, you cannot go into this sector without assuring that the ground handling equipment are put in place,“ he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing of ElectroAir OU, Mr. Aleksandr Skrebnev, explained that the company’s interest in Abia stems from its conviction that the state’s progressive industrial environment provides the ideal foundation for a regional hub in aviation technology and manufacturing.
He disclosed that ElectroAir is currently evaluating Abia State and its new airport project as the preferred location for an ElectroAir Assembly and Maintenance Facility, a pioneering project that would be the first of its kind in Nigeria.
Mr. Skrebnev also reaffirmed the company’s readiness to partner with the Abia State Government in the provision of modern ground handling equipment and the establishment of a strategic aviation support hub within the airport project.
Speaking further, he stated:
“We already have a fleet of our equipment in Nigeria. Some hangar are already equipped with our ground support equipment. And we are not stopping. Some others are in the process right now.“
In his presentation, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Skymaster Achievers International Services Limited, Mr. Princewill Ogbonna, revealed that the principal objective of the visit was to advance discussions on the establishment of the proposed ElectroAir Assembly and Maintenance Facility within the new Abia Airport.
According to him, the project possesses enormous potential to position Abia State as Nigeria’s leading destination for aviation technology, aircraft support services, and advanced manufacturing. He noted that the initiative would contribute significantly to job creation, foreign direct investment, technology transfer, skills development, and sustainable industrial growth.
Mr. Ogbonna further commended Governor Alex Otti for what he described as progressive leadership and a clear strategic vision for the future of Abia State. He expressed confidence that the proposed partnership would make meaningful contributions to the state’s long-term industrialization and economic development agenda.
The meeting was attended by key government officials, including the Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Chimezie Isaac Ukaegbu; the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Hon. Obioma Rueben Nwaogbe, PhD; the Special Assistant to the Governor on Lands and Coordinator of the Abia Airport Project, Pastor Okorougo Aji; the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the PPP Office, Mr. Chinedum Chijioke; and members of his management team.
The engagement further reinforces the growing confidence of international investors in Abia State and underscores Governor Alex Otti’s determination to transform the state into a major aviation, logistics, and industrial hub capable of driving economic prosperity, regional connectivity, and sustai
nable development across Nigeria and West Africa.
