Abia Police Arrest 28-Year-Old Over Alleged Cultism, Firearms Possession in Aba

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, identified as Ugochukwu Precious, over alleged involvement in violent criminal gang activities, cultism and unlawful possession of firearms in Aba.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the suspect, a resident of Umuohia, Ogbor Hill, Aba, was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Aba North, following a report received on September 22, 2026.

The police said the matter began after the suspect allegedly obtained an iPhone 17 Pro Max from a seller under the guise of payment on delivery in April 2026 but allegedly failed to make payment.

According to the Command, the dispute later escalated, with the suspect allegedly resorting to threats and the use of thugs against the seller.

Following actionable intelligence, RRS operatives reportedly arrested Precious, who allegedly made confessional statements during interrogation.

The police subsequently recovered a pump-action shotgun from the suspect on September 23, 2026.

The Command said investigation is ongoing, while efforts are being made to apprehend other alleged members of the suspect’s gang who are currently at large.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to tackling cultism, violent crimes and illegal possession of firearms.

He also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and provide timely and useful information to the police as partners in crime prevention.
