Fuel Price Surges to ₦1,395 Per Litre as Dangote Refinery Raises Petrol Gantry Price Again
Petrol prices have recorded another sharp increase across parts of Lagos and Ogun States, with some filling stations now selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) for as high as ₦1,395 per litre following a fresh increase in the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s gantry price.
The latest development has triggered immediate adjustments at several filling stations, further increasing the financial pressure on motorists and other fuel-dependent businesses.
Checks on Saturday showed that the Dangote-backed MRS filling station in Alapere, Lagos, raised its pump price from ₦1,310 to ₦1,395 per litre. At the nearby Mobil filling station, petrol was being sold for ₦1,385 per litre.
In Ogun State, the Matrix filling station at Kara dispensed petrol at ₦1,360 per litre, while NNPC retail stations in Ibafo sold the product at ₦1,380 per litre.
However, the latest increase had not yet been implemented uniformly across all filling stations as of 6pm on Saturday. Bovas filling station, for instance, was still selling petrol at ₦1,280 per litre, highlighting the wide price differences currently emerging across retail outlets.
The latest pump-price adjustments followed the decision by the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to increase its petrol gantry price from ₦1,265 to ₦1,350 per litre, effective Saturday, September 12, 2026.
The increase represents another major upward review by the refinery within a relatively short period, coming amid rising international oil prices and growing concerns over another round of fuel-price increases in Nigeria.
The latest adjustment is the fourth increase in Dangote Refinery’s petrol gantry price since August 21.
On August 21, the refinery raised the price from ₦1,165 to ₦1,185 per litre. Five days later, on August 26, it moved the price up to ₦1,200 per litre.
Another increase followed on August 29, when the gantry price climbed to ₦1,265 per litre.
The refinery has now added a further ₦85 per litre, taking the price to ₦1,350 per litre within just three weeks.
Cumulatively, the successive adjustments have increased the refinery’s petrol price by ₦185 per litre, representing an increase of approximately 15.9 per cent in 22 days.
The latest development is expected to continue influencing pump prices nationwide as marketers adjust their retail rates to reflect the new cost of obtaining petrol from the refinery.
