September 06, () — A Boeing 767 cargo aircraft overran a runway after landing at Miami International Airport on Sunday, prompting aviation authorities to temporarily restrict flights into the airport.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft went beyond the runway at about 2 p.m. local time after arriving from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Video footage from the scene showed the aircraft, which appeared to carry Amazon branding, off the runway and positioned near a road. It was not immediately clear which operator was conducting the flight.

“The Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico,” the FAA said.

Air traffic control audio recorded around the time of the incident also appeared to capture ground personnel reporting the runway excursion.

“Looks like we have an aircraft that overran the runway on 30,” a ground vehicle was heard telling the control tower.

The incident prompted the FAA to impose a ground stop at Miami International Airport because of the disabled aircraft. Such restrictions temporarily prevent certain flights from departing for an affected airport and can result in delays while authorities respond to an incident.

There was no immediate confirmation of injuries among those aboard the aircraft, while authorities had yet to disclose the extent of any damage to the plane.

The circumstances surrounding the runway overrun were also not immediately clear, including whether weather, mechanical problems or other factors played a role.

The FAA had not announced a cause of the incident as of the initial reports.
