Nigerian legion mobilises support for Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The National Council of the Nigerian Legion delegation has joined its American counterparts at the 107th American Legion National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in a major move to elevate Nigeria’s global diplomatic standing and modernize Nigeria’s veterans’ welfare.

The National Chairman of the Council, Ms Grace Morenike Henry who led the high-powered delegation, said the visit supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on international military partnerships, institutional reforms, and improved welfare for Nigeria’s Armed Forces veterans, in accordance with global standards and international best practices.

By engaging directly with their American counterparts and participants worldwide, the Nigerian delegation sought to adapt global models in veterans’ administration including veterans’ housing, medical care, post-service transition schemes and other support frameworks.

Speaking on the significance of the convention, Ms. Henry noted that partnering with the American Legion offers a roadmap to overhaul the Nigerian Legion Act of 1964.

She explained that the amendment will transit the organization from colonial-era structures to a modern veteran care system. She further explained that the reform represents a shift from colonial-era structures to a modernized and well-equipped veteran administration system.

This partnership would be expected to fast-track modern initiatives aimed at better supporting Nigeria’s ex-servicemen, wounded warriors, and the families of fallen heroes who paid the supreme sacrifice for our nation.

The convention in Louisville served as a vital and veritable platform for Nigeria to foster improved diplomatic and military relations with the United States of America, ensuring that the sacrifices of its ex-servicemen and women are not only honoured locally but recognized on the global stage.

Also on the delegation was the Nigerian Legion’s Consultant, Brigadier General BET Bello (rtd), who accompanied the National Chairman to the historic and epoch-making international gathering in Louisville, Kentucky.

In a statement signed by A .A. Adetoro, Director, Corporate Affairs, Nigerian Legion, on hand to welcome the delegation from the Nigerian Legion were Pam Ray, National President of the American Legion Auxiliary, and Doug Collins, United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs, among many others.
