The Mayor of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, alongside members of the Aba North Legislative Council, paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Chief Dr. Eme Abali Mba, whose death reportedly came as a shock to the leadership and staff of the Council.
The condolence visit, which took place on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, saw the Mayor and members of the legislative council visit the deceased’s family to commiserate with them and offer their support during the difficult period of mourning.
Speaking during the visit, Mayor Iheke expressed sympathy to the family and acknowledged the loss of the late political leader and community stakeholder. He assured the family that the Aba North Local Government Council would continue to stand by them and provide necessary support whenever required.
Responding, the widow of the deceased, Mrs. Ijeoma Abali Mba, expressed appreciation to Mayor Iheke and the councillors for taking the time to visit the family and identify with them in their moment of grief. She also appealed to the delegation to continue remembering the family in their prayers.
Late Chief Dr. Eme Abali Mba was a prominent political and community stakeholder from the Ukwa extraction of the Ukwa/Ngwa socio-political bloc. He was widely associated with advocacy for regional equity and fair political representation, particularly regarding the rotation of the Abia South Senatorial seat between the Ngwa and Ukwa sub-groups.
His political activities also extended to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where he was recognised for his advocacy for the political interests and representation of the Ukwa people.
Ahead of the 2019 general elections, he served as the Director-General of the Solomon Ogunji Campaign Organization and championed the call for the recognition of the Ukwa people’s rotation rights in the Abia South Senatorial District.
Chief Abali Mba also had a notable history in local government administration, having served as Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area from 1999 to 2023.
The condolence delegation included the Head of Service of Aba North Local Government Council as well as members of the Aba North Legislative Council, who joined the Mayor in paying their respects to the family and honouring the memory of the late p
