Lagos to Begin Phased Diversion on Friday for Oke-Afa Bridge Repairs by Federal Govt

The Lagos State Government has announced traffic diversions around Oke-Afa Bridge in Isolo, as the Federal Government begins rehabilitation works on the bridge from Friday, August 28.

According to the government, the three-week exercise will end on Thursday, September 18, and will be carried out in two phases to allow vehicular movement to continue on one carriageway at a time.

The project is being handled by the Federal Ministry of Works through its Lagos office, with Strabic Construction Limited as the contractor.

In a statement posted on the Lagos State Government’s Facebook page, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the phased arrangement was designed to minimise disruption.

“Motorists are implored to be patient, as the partial road closure forms part of the traffic management plan for the rehabilitation works on Oke-Afa Bridge, Isolo LGA,” the statement read.

Under phase one, scheduled for August 28 to September 11, motorists travelling from Isolo to Ejigbo will be diverted at Pako Roundabout onto the Isolo-bound carriageway. The road will temporarily operate a two-way traffic system up to Mobil Filling Station, where vehicles heading to Ejigbo will return to their normal lane.

Motorists coming from Ejigbo to Isolo will, however, be allowed to proceed. They will share the carriageway with Ejigbo-bound vehicles between Mobil Filling Station and Pako Roundabout before resuming normal movement.

Phase two will commence on September 12 and run till September 18. During this period, vehicles moving from Ejigbo to Isolo will be diverted at Mobil Filling Station onto the Ejigbo-bound carriageway. The two-way arrangement will subsist until Pako Roundabout, where traffic will reconnect to the main carriageway towards Isolo.

Motorists travelling from Isolo will also continue to have access, but will share the carriageway with Isolo-bound traffic between Pako Roundabout and Mobil Filling Station.

The government said personnel of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority would be deployed to the corridor throughout the duration of the rehabilitation to regulate traffic flow.

It added that an emergency tow vehicle would be stationed in the area to evacuate broken-down vehicles promptly and prevent gridlock on the temporary carriageway.

Osiyemi urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead and comply with traffic officials, especially during periods when their direction of travel would be affected.

Normal vehicular movement on Oke-Afa Bridge is expected to resume on September 18 at the conclusion of the second phase.
