2027: Okereke Mobilises Support for Otti, Labour Candidates in Abia

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 election, Dr. Sunday Chibuzo Okereke, has urged voters in Abia State to support Governor Alex Otti and other Labour Party candidates across elective positions.

Okereke made the call during a solidarity roadshow in Arochukwu, Arochukwu Local Government Area, where he mobilised supporters and residents ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The procession attracted a large crowd, with supporters displaying Labour Party flags, banners, posters and placards as they moved through parts of the community.

Okereke said the rally was organised partly to appreciate Otti’s administration for what he described as its development efforts in Abia, adding that the state’s experience could offer lessons for governance at the national level.

He described Otti as an important figure within the Labour Party and called for support for the party’s Abia North Senatorial candidate, Chief Dr. David Ogba Onuoha Bourdex; Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency candidate, Hon. Ibe Okwara Osonwa; and Arochukwu State Constituency candidate, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okoro.

He also urged voters to support Labour Party candidates across the ballot, arguing that having legislators from the same political platform as the governor could promote coordination in the implementation of government programmes.

Okereke said his presidential ambition was driven by his experience in systems development, institutional design and governance architecture.

“I have spent years studying systems and designing systems and governance architecture, supporting institutional design and framework,” he said.

He said his proposed approach to governance would prioritise improving the socioeconomic conditions of Nigerians.

“Democracy must deliver happiness to the Nigerian people. Democracy must improve the lives of people,” he added.

The presidential candidate also urged Nigerians to participate actively in the electoral process and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, where necessary.

He said political decisions at the federal, state and local government levels have direct implications for citizens and the business environment.

On his proposed national agenda, Okereke advocated a more functional federal system, an effective local government structure and the adoption of zero-based budgeting.

He also highlighted institutional reform, youth and women inclusion, participatory governance and broader consideration of diversity under what he termed the “Nigerians First Vision.”

Okereke further called for a transition from what he described as a “palliative and distributive economy” to a productive economy driven by economic activity and opportunities.

At the event, the Traditional Ruler of Arochukwu Kingdom, His Eminence, Dr. Eberechukwu Oji, Eze Aro IX, prayed for the presidential candidate and wished him well in his political pursuit.

The monarch urged Okereke to uphold due process and respect the rule of law during the campaign.

He also advised him to respect the values, traditions and traditional institutions of the Arochukwu people.

The 2027 presidential election is scheduled for January 16, 2027, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
