British Actress Dame Penelope Keith Dies After Cancer Battle

June 29 () — Dame Penelope Keith, the British actress best known for her roles in “The Good Life” and “To the Manor Born”, has died at the age of 86.

Her family announced her passing on Monday, June 29, confirming that she died peacefully after living with cancer at her home in Surrey, where she had lived for more than 50 years.

In a statement, the family said: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Dame Penelope Keith died peacefully whilst living with cancer at her home in Surrey where she had lived for more than 50 years. The family is grateful for the care and support she received throughout her treatments, and ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

Keith became a well-known face in British comedy in the 1970s. She played Margo Leadbetter in “The Good Life” and Audrey forbes-Hamilton in “To the Manor Born.”

She began her career on stage with the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1963 and later won an Olivier Award for Best Comedy Performance in 1976. She also received multiple BAFTA awards during her career.

She was made a Dame in 2014 for services to the arts and charity.

Tributes have continued to pour in, with colleagues and public figures praising her contribution to British television and comedy.
