Bende Youths Back Anyaso, Vow to Defend Votes
Youths from nine communities in Bende Town have pledged to mobilise support and defend their votes for the Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, in the 2027 general elections.
The youths, from Okputong, Agbamuzu, Amaugwu, Isiegbu, Isiala, Umuorie, Umuokoro, Okporoenyi and Ukpom, made the commitment when Anyaso met with them at the Okputong Community Hall, Bende Town, on Saturday.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, Chinedu Ude, Alice Kalu and Okorie Ugboaja assured the candidate of their support, saying they would mobilise their groups and other young people across Bende Town for the Labour Party.
The Youth Chairman said, “With my little power, with my group and those with me, we shall work, vote and defend our votes for you.”
The youths also promised to give Anyaso a warm reception whenever he visits the area, saying they were ready to mobilise from Agbamuzu to welcome and escort him into Bende Town.
Responding, Anyaso expressed appreciation for the reception but criticised the condition of the Okputong Community Hall, describing it as unbefitting for a community represented in the National Assembly.
He challenged the community’s representative to renovate the facility within one month, threatening to undertake the renovation himself if the task was not completed within the period.
“This hall is not befitting for a Federal House member from this town. Go and tell your brother to do it within one month; if not, I will come and fix it,” he said.
Anyaso also called for greater attention to development projects in the immediate communities of elected representatives, arguing that such interventions should address pressing local needs.
He cited healthcare projects in Igbere and challenged the area’s representative to focus more on development in his own community.
On the 2027 elections, the Labour Party candidate urged the youths to remain resolute, assuring them that the election should reflect the will of the electorate.
“In this 2027 election, there will be no rigging. We won’t allow it to happen,” he declared.
He further expressed confidence that Governor Alex Otti would not tolerate electoral irregularities, urging the youths to remain committed to the Labour Party and its candidates.
Also speaking, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Hon. Anyim Eke, reminded the youths of what he described as an existing understanding within the party regarding the number of terms to be served by its candidate in the Bende Federal Constituency.
Eke argued that pursuing a third term would run contrary to the arrangement, as he called on the electorate to consider the agreement in deciding their choice in 2027.
The Mayor of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. DCN Uwabunkonye Bassey; Deputy Mayor, Hon. Ngozi Sandra; the Leader of the Council; and the Labour Party candidate for Bende South State Constituency, Hon. Chinedu Edwin Okorie, also urged the youths to intensify grassroots mobilisation for Anyaso and other Labour Party candidates.
They called for unity and sustained mobilisation to ensure victory for the party in the 2027 elections.
In his vote of thanks, the Chairman of the Labour Party in Bende LGA, Sir Lawrence Eze, commended the youths for hosting Anyaso and providing an opportunity for direct interaction between the candidate and residents of Bende Town.
