UN Public Service Day 2026: Iheke Recognizes Civil Servants, Lauds Otti’s Achievements
The Executive Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, Hon. Timothy Kalu Iheke, has joined the global community in celebrating the 2026 United Nations Public Service Day, paying glowing tribute to public servants for their unwavering dedication to nation-building and service delivery.
In a goodwill message to mark the annual celebration themed, “Transforming Public Institutions: Advancing Innovation, Participation, and Inclusion,” the Aba North Mayor described public servants as the engine room of governance whose commitment and professionalism continue to drive development and strengthen public institutions.
Hon. Iheke noted that the significance of this year’s theme aligns perfectly with the ongoing transformation taking place in Abia State under the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti. According to him, the Governor’s people-centered leadership has ushered in a new era of accountability, innovation, transparency, and efficiency within the state’s public service sector.

He highlighted the Governor’s numerous reforms aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants, including the prompt payment of salaries and pensions, investment in capacity building, modernization of government processes, and the creation of a conducive environment for productivity and excellence.
The Council Chairman stated that these initiatives have restored confidence in public institutions while motivating workers to deliver quality services to the people of Abia State.
Hon. Iheke further emphasized that the achievements recorded by the present administration reflect a strong commitment to building a responsive and inclusive government where every citizen has a stake in the development process.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Aba North Local Government administration to supporting Governor Otti’s transformational agenda through innovative grassroots governance, enhanced community participation, and policies that promote inclusive development across the local government area.
The Chairman also reserved special commendation for civil servants, teachers, healthcare workers, security personnel, and other public officers whose dedication and sacrifices continue to sustain government institutions and ensure the delivery of essential services to citizens.
As the world marks the 2026 United Nations Public Service Day, Hon. Iheke called on public servants to remain steadfast in their commitment to excellence, integrity, and innovation while embracing reforms that will further strengthen governance and accelerate sustainable development.
He expressed optimism that through collective dedication and visionary leadership, Abia State will continue to set new standards in public service delivery and institutional transformation, thereby creating a brighter future for generations to come.
